PHOTOGRAPHER'S PROFILE

Klemens Gann is an underwater marine wildlife videographer located in the Philippines. He started diving in Koh Tao, Thailand in 1993 and has logged well in excess of 4000 Dives. Underwater videography became his passion in 2004 and through the years he has used several different camera and housing systems to capture the rich underwater realm on video. He now films in HD format and has a stunning footage variety ranging form scenery shots, soft corals and animal behaviour to the rarest creatures our wide oceans have to offer. PHOTO LOCATION: Dauin Sanctuary, Negros Island, Philippines

ABOUT THE LOCATION This is a great place to do so called “muck diving” which means searching for the rare and unusual critters that like to hide and are well camouflaged. This dive site consists of a slight slope with black volcanic sand (the name negros means black in Spanish). You will be amazed by the variety of unusual creatures you will encounter here. This is a must for any video/photo enthusiast as there are so many collector’s species here which may not have yet been caught on film. Even if the area seems very quiet its teeming with live and and has an incredible abundance of tiny organisms which start a long and impressive food chain. Dauin is indeed a special place to dive.

TIPS FOR THE PHOTOGRAPHER
What to photograph: Seahorses, Ghostpipefish, frogfish, devilfish, pipefish, Lionfish, waspfish, cuttlefish. When to photograph: Usually late afternoon is the best to dive as the more skittish critters which are difficult to capture on film or video emerge from their shelter. Photography tips: Bring a good macro lens as some of the animals are quite small in size, and to be able to get good shots of others lights are absolutely necessity.

		Where it is: Negros Island is located in the Visayas Island group and Dauin is on the south east coast of Negros. How to get there: International flight carriers bring you to Cebu. From there you can take a domestic flight to Negros. Once you arrive in Dumaguete city (Negros) it is a 40 min. car ride to the Dauin coast. Accommodation: Several resorts are located on the coast near Dauin, offering beautiful bungalows with air conditioning, swimming pools and restaurants. What to take/ Other info: Bring one of the local dive guides as they are very knowledgeable about the marine life present at the moment. They will show you the most fascinating species for your video and photo shoots.
