ABOUT THE LOCATION
|
|
The Llangollen Canal is a picturesque stretch of water running from Llangollen to the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct. The canal is a popular place for summer holidays, when colourful barges can be seen floating along at a relaxed pace, and families stroll on tow paths worn down by the hooves of horses which pulled the canal barges in times gone by. Walk through leafy avenues admiring the narrowboats’ painted decorations, or views over the Welsh countryside, before arriving at the spectacular 300m long Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, designed by Thomas Telford. Supported by thick stone arches, a sliver of water, in a cast iron trough, moves the barges silently over the valley and the River Dee some 38m below. |
