PHOTO LOCATION: Petra, Wadi Musa, Jordan

A lost civalisation

ABOUT THE LOCATION

The hidden, ancient Nabataean city of Petra is the highlight of any trip to Jordan. These unique archaeological treasures set in a remarkable landscape are a real photographer’s delight. To witness the historic tombs, theatres and temples, all intricately carved out of the multicoloured sandstone mountains is truly awe inspiring. The most striking has to be beautiful Al Khazneh, better known as The Treasury. This magnificent façade in a rose pink cliff is the most famous landmark in Petra. Your first glimse of it, through a gorge little more than a few metres wide, is a moment you will never forget. Don’t underestimate the size of Petra it is best to take 2-3 days to fully experience its wonders.
TIPS FOR THE PHOTOGRAPHER

What to photograph: The Treasury, the Monastry, the Roman Theatre, amazing rock patterns, the gorge, camels, and unusual landscapes.
When to photograph: It’s quietest early in the morning and late in the afternoon. High views of the Treasury are best in the morning. The Monastry is best in the afternoon.
