PHOTO LOCATION: Ayuthaya Historical Park, Ayuthaya, Thailand

Wat Chai Wattanaram at dusk

ABOUT THE LOCATION

Ayuthaya Historical Park is next to the modern town of Ayuthaya and has over a dozen ancient temple sites worth the photographer’s look. The temples are mainly scattered to the west of the town, with some on the far banks of the Old Lopburi River which encircles the town. Photographers should allow at least 2 full days to cover the main temples, and they can carry on into the evening as most temples are illuminated. Ayuthaya Historical Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and this is celebrated every year with shows, parades and fireworks.
TIPS FOR THE PHOTOGRAPHER

What to photograph: Some of the main temples are Wat Phra Ram, Wat Phra Si Sanphet, Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon, Wat Ratburana and Wat Phra Mahathat.
When to photograph: Most parks are open from 8 in the morning until 6:30 in the evening. Avoid the wet season.
Photography tips: Try and plan a visit to coincide with the World Heritage Celebrations in mid-December. Contact the TAT offices for full details.
