Home country: The Netherlands

Tony is the photographer and co-founder of World Photo Locations. Over the years his images have appeared on album covers and in magazines, and he has presented slide and video shows, all over the world, for touring bands, and at large-scale events and pop festivals. Together with Liz Jones, writer and editor for the WPL site, he now combines his passion for photography with his love of travel.

ABOUT THE LOCATION
Thailand’s largest market, held every weekend, covers the area of 5 football pitches and encompasses thousands of stalls selling anything and everything. Religious amulets, pets, cheap clothing and plants are just a selection of what’s on offer.

It is this diversity, and the sheer number of visitors, which makes it such a fascinating place to photograph, and provides quite a challenge to capture its bustling, chaotic atmosphere.
TIPS FOR THE PHOTOGRAPHER

What to photograph: The weird and wonderful merchandise, the stall holders and shoppers.
When to photograph: The majority of the stalls are open from 8 in the morning till 6 at night.
Photography tips: Most stalls are inside so take a flash or fast film. Leave your tripod at home as it’s just too busy to set it up.

Where it is: To the north of Bangkok near the northern bus terminal.
How to get there: Either by bus or the Skytrain from central Bangkok.
Accommodation: There is accommodation for all budgets in Bangkok. There is nothing by the market itself.

Other info:		 If you ask permission the majority of stallholders are quite happy for their stall to be photographed.
