Home country: The Netherlands

Tony is the photographer and co-founder of World Photo Locations. Over the years his images have appeared on album covers and in magazines, and he has presented slide and video shows, all over the world, for touring bands, and at large-scale events and pop festivals. Together with Liz Jones, writer and editor for the WPL site, he now combines his passion for photography with his love of travel.

ABOUT THE LOCATION

Arcos de la Frontera is one of the few ‘white villages’ which can be photographed from many different viewpoints, thanks to its spectacular location on top of a ridge, and the road which circumnavigates it.

Within the maze of streets in the old town you will find a mixture of picturesque lines of whitewashed houses, sleepy alleys decorated with flowers, and impressive historical buildings and churches.
TIPS FOR THE PHOTOGRAPHER

What to photograph: Views of the town from the south and east, whitewashed alleys filled with flowers, historical monuments.
When to photograph: Views can be taken from morning through till late in the day. Main churches are best at the end of the day. In May there is the Cruces de Mayo festival.
Photography tips: Do explore the many narrow alleyways to find picturesque patios filled with flowers.

Where it is: 30 kilometres east of Jerez de la Frontera in the Andalucian region of south-west Spain.
How to get there: The nearest international airport is in Seville, from where it is a 90 kilometre drive.
Accommodation: Pensións, hostals and hotels are all in the town. The campsite is just outside near Lago de Arcos.

The tourist information office has a map showing all the patios which is of particular use during the Cruces de Mayo festival when the streets are filled with crosses made of flowers.
